2025 VAVS PATIENT COUNTRY FAIR
The Center for Development & Civic Engagement (CDCE) and Recreation Therapy (RT) are happy to announce the return of the Patient Country Fair! The annual VAVS Country Fair will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025 rain date is Thursday, May 2, 2025. We will be incorporating a Patriotic Red, White, and Blue theme. Each organization is requested to decorate their Fair Booth with this theme in mind. Medical Center patients, Community Living Center (CLC), Domiciliary, (DOM), and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) residents will be attending the Fair from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. It is expected that approximately 200 hospital patients and escorts will attend the Patient Country Fair this year.

Mideast Division MCL Conference
The Department of Virginia takes great pleasure inviting each and all to attend the Mideast Division Conference 27-28 June 2025 to be held at the Holiday Inn Conference Center 20 Sanford Drive Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
Registration is $10 per attendee.
Room Rates are $109 plus taxes. Parking included.
Lunch Cost is $15.00 or on your own. (There is only 1 hour for lunch due to elections.)
Banquet Buffet Cost is $65.00 for Chicken Cordon Blue, Beef Tenderloin Tips or a Vegan option plus all sides, drinks and dessert.

14th Annual Extortion 17 Memorial Ride
Join us for the 14th Annual EXTORTION 17 Memorial Ride on Saturday, August 2nd, 2024. This event honors the 31 Heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on August 6th, 2011, in Afghanistan. There's no cost to participate, and the ride will be escorted by local law enforcement. More information will be released soon.

Chesapeake Bataan Death March Memorial Walk
The purpose of this annual event is to honor and remember all those who endured one of the most harrowing events in US and Filipino history. Our goal is to educate today's generation on the sacrifices of the greatest generation. All donations will be graciously accepted and used for the Chesapeake Bataan Death March as well as to support the VFW Post 2894's ongoing mission to serve veterans.
The event will take place at the Dismal Swamp in Chesapeake, VA.

Norfolk St. Patrick's Day Parade
The 58th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a fun filled Irish parade with all the marching bands, clowns, floats, cars, and people necessary to make up an exciting and enjoyable parade. Everyone is Irish both in and along the parade route. Please check the parade map to see the parade route. The parade is presented by Norfolk Parade, Inc.

Norfolk Admirals Guns and Hoses Game
Join us at Scope Arena for the 15th Annual Guns & Hoses charity hockey game on March 8th, 2025, Presented by Window World! Local police officers and firemen will battle it out on the Admirals ice to raise money for Vigilant Watch, a non profit that supports first responders who have encountered physical, mental, or financial hardship.

Color Guard Practice
There will be a scheduled practice on the second Saturday of each month, start time 0900, location is our VFW. Each practice last approximately an hour.
Participation in the CG/HG is open to all Detachment members male and female, prior CG/HG experience is not needed. At practice we have several experienced members who will walk you through the steps. Guidance will be provided as to proper uniform for the CG/HG, the detachment can also reimburse for the purchase of uniform items. Additional members are needed to ensure the continued success of the JAL Detachment Color Guard/Honor Guard.
Some activities we participate in are parades, presenting Colors at various opening ceremonies, flag raisings, providing funeral honors.
