Harry Schoedler Memorial Scholarship
About the Scholarship
The Harry Schoedler Memorial Scholarship will consist of an award of one-thousand ($1,000.00) dollars or less as established by the scholarship committee, awarded annually to a qualified and deserving applicants as determined by the Detachment Scholarship Committee and the availability of funds.
Requirements:
All applicants must be in strict compliance with the following:
Complete and sign the application.
Ensure all the required supporting documents are enclosed in a single package (see enclosure (1)).
Provide a letter of recommendation from one of the following:
A high school administrator or faculty member.
[Ensure letter(s) is/are signed by their originator. Letter(s) not signed will not be accepted.]
Other Supporting Documents should include the following:
Transcript of student’s entire high school grades to date.
Young Marines include a letter from one of your Young Marine Staff members
Proof of acceptance by an educational institution of higher learning or a recognized trade school prior to awarding of scholarship. (If proof not included in package).
Provide a typed brief life history be sure to include high school honors, school, community, church, extracurricular activities and your goals. (Limit 2 type written pages).
Have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Ensure the application has been completed and all required signatures have been obtained. Incomplete packages or any containing unsigned documents WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Eligibility:
The applicant’s eligibility will be based on the following criteria:
A son, daughter, grandchild, or step-child, of a John A. Lejeune Detachment or Virginia Beach Ladies Auxiliary (as applicable) member in good standing, or
A son, daughter, grandchild, or step-child of a Marine or FMF Corpsman who lost his/her life in the line of duty, or
A son, daughter, grandchild, or step-child of an active duty Marine or FMF Corpsman who is not a member of the Marine Corps League, or
A member in good standing in the Virginia Beach Young Marine Program with two (2) years of honorable service and who has obtained the rank of corporal or higher, or
A Boy Scout who has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout or a Girl Scout who has been awarded the Gold Award.
NOTE: Applicants who are the son, daughter, grandchild, or step-child of the John A. Lejeune Detachment, Marine Corps League, member in good standing, shall receive first consideration for any scholarship to be awarded.

The packages must be postmarked by March 15th of the award year.
The committee will begin reviewing the packages seven (7) working days after 15 March to provide the postal service ample time to deliver all submitted packages. If, through no fault of an applicant, their application postmarked prior to the 15th of March is received any time during the review and selection process, that application will be reviewed and will compete equally with the other packages.

Good Citizen Award for Boy Scouts
About the Award
At the Marine Corps League, we take great pride in recognizing and honoring America's future leaders who have earned the prestigious Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award. Through our Good Citizenship Award program, we celebrate the exceptional achievements of Eagle Scouts and highlight the invaluable skills they have mastered on their journey to become exemplary leaders.
Personalized Recognition:
To ensure that each Eagle Scout receives the recognition they deserve each honoree will be presented the Good Citizenship Award Certificate on behalf of the Marine Corps League. This personalized recognition underscores the significance of the Eagle Scout's achievement and its importance to both the Marine Corps League and corporations across the United States.
Initiating Recognition:
Troops wishing to initiate recognition for their Eagle Scouts can submit a request to the John A Lejeune Detachment by completing our official request form. We stand ready to support and honor these outstanding young leaders as they embark on their journey of service and leadership.
Criteria for Selection:
Candidates for the Marine Corps League Good Citizenship Award for Eagle Scouts are evaluated based on their demonstration of the following criteria:
Leadership: Exhibiting strong leadership skills in their troop and community, taking initiative, and inspiring others.
Service: Demonstrating a commitment to service through meaningful projects that benefit their community or environment.
Character: Displaying integrity, honesty, and respect for others, embodying the values of the Boy Scouts of America oath and law.
Patriotism: Showing a deep appreciation for their country and a willingness to serve others in the spirit of citizenship and duty.

Marc S. Trace Scholarship Award
About the Scholarship
These competitive scholarships are to be awarded to graduating high school seniors who are the dependents of active duty, retired, reservists, or deceased members of the United States Marine Corps stationed or living in the Hampton Roads area. A scholarship committee will review all applications; the scholarships awarded will be based on outstanding achievement both in school and community.
Application Procedure:
All applications will be considered provided all sections are complete. Applications must be received by midnight May 1, 2024. An appointed committee will make the selection of the recipients and its judgment is final. Applicants who have received a full tuition scholarship (from another source) are not eligible for this scholarship. In this case, this scholarship will be awarded to an alternate. All scholarships will be paid DIRECTLY TO THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY OF THE RECIPIENT'S CHOICE.
The scholarship must be applied during the 2024-2025 academic year. A completed application will consist of the following:
A completed application form
A photocopy of student's military dependent ID card, both front and back
An official copy of their high school transcript.
Two personal letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a teacher or counselor. Additional letters will be accepted.
An original essay of not more than 500 words on the topic: "What influences has the military lifestyle had on you and your views of yourself, our nation, and the world? How will you use these experiences as you move forward in your future?"
